Health Information - Breasts that go into is a common complaint
of women. The condition of the nipple that does not pop out but instead sinks
in is called nipple inversion.
Breast Type
Basically female breasts are divided into
three types:
1.
Normal-shaped
breasts where the entire nipple extends beyond the surface of the areola. The
condition of the nipple will take place like that both under normal
circumstances and when sexually stimulated or due to cold stimulation.
2.
The
nipple is flat and does not change shape despite pressing the areola about 2 cm
outside the nipple (pinch test).
3.
Breasts
with inverted or inverted nipples when pinched are performed.
The condition of the second and third
types of nipples is classified as abnormal. Both types of nipples are divided
into several forms, such as:
· Dimpled:The dimpled nipple shape looks partially
out but can still be pulled out even though it doesn't last long.
· Unilaterals:The shape of this type of nipple is only
one side of the breast that has the nipple sinking inward.
Types of Inverted Nipples
Nipple inversion can be classified into
three types, based on the extent to which the nipple is inverted and the
ability of the nipple to respond to stimulation.
Degree 1
At degree 1 the nipple is easy to pull out
and holds pretty well with just a little tug. The nipple will come back out
with just finger or mouth pressure. This condition will not interfere with
breast function.
Degree 2
The condition of the inward nipple can
still be pulled out, but the withdrawal is not as easy as degree 1. The nipple
can come out with gentle pressure but the nipple will return back after the
pull is released. This condition can lead to several problems, especially when
breastfeeding and psychological impact.
Degree 3
The condition of the nipple at degree 3
will look very inward and very difficult to get out or respond to stimulation.
This condition will cause some problems for women who are breastfeeding. In
addition, this condition can also have an impact on women's psychology due to
the emergence of feelings of unattractiveness or disability.
To avoid things that we don't want, you
should do a breast self-examination, to observe whether there are changes in
the breasts such as:
· Changes in breast
shape
· Reddish and warm
skin
· The presence of a
lump that is palpable or visible
· Discharge from the
nipple (pus or blood)
· Nipple retraction
(nipple inward)
· Image of orange
peel on the breast (dimpling)
· Irregular
thickening of breast tissue.
Causes of pulled in nipples
Inverted nipple or nipple inversion occurs
when the nipple tissue is pulled into the breast tissue instead of sticking
out. Often, this happens spontaneously and can be reversed simply by manually
stimulating the nipple, although on some occasions the nipple will remain
inverted indefinitely. This can be a serious concern for some, as they may not
like the look created on the breasts – it may not look natural.
The most common cause for inverted nipples
is aging, although in some cases, especially if inverted nipples are
accompanied by an itching sensation, it may indicate a more serious condition
such as breast cancer.
After the birth and weaning of the child,
however, the nipple may also reverse, as the tissues and muscles connected to
the breast glands contract. Contraction of the milk ducts, before or after
birth, can also cause this kind of inversion.
Treatment for Pulled-in Nipples at Home
If you're looking for a temporary
solution, you might want to consider:
1. Hoffman technique
The Hoffman technique for pulling the
nipple back has been used since the 1950s. To try it:
· Place your thumbs
on either side of your nipple. Be sure to place it at the base of the nipple,
not outside the areola.
· Press firmly into
your breast tissue.
· While still
pressing, gently pull your thumbs away from each other.
· Move your thumb
around the nipple and repeat.
You can do this whenever you want your
nipples to stand out, but it's not clear how long this effect will last. For
best results, practice this technique at least once a day. Regular stimulation
can help your nipples protrude more often.
There are no studies that prove whether it
is effective. Everyone's breasts are different, so try not to get discouraged
if this method doesn't work for you.
2. Suction device
There have been several suction devices
introduced to reverse inverted nipples. Mostly worn under clothes for a long
time.
These products are sold under a variety of
names, including:
· Nipple retractors
· Nipple extractors
· Shells
· Cups
These devices usually work by pulling the
nipple into a small cup. This stimulates the nipples and makes them stand out.
When used over time, these devices can
help loosen nipple tissue. This can help your nipples stay erect for a longer
time.
Popular choices include:
· Avent Niplette
· Pippetop Inverted
Nipple Protractor
· Medela SoftShells
for Inverted Nipples
· Supple Cups
There have been no studies on the
effectiveness of suction devices. Some people may experience nipple bulge and
others may not. Most of the devices are cheap and might be worth a try.
